Awaken started back in Fall of 1992, when after an inspiring lunch in the Sproul Cafeteria, students Joyce Yim, Olimpio Wen, and Keith Ogden went directly up to Keith’s dorm room, where they wrote a one-page manifesto that established Awaken on the principles of passion for music and people. In the following years, Awaken would forge the A Cappella revolution at UCLA.
Currently, Awaken’s discography includes 6 studio albums: Synergy (1995), Co-Ed Naked Singing (1997), Pitch-Slapped (2001), Dysfunktional Family Album (2003), Life’s a Beach (2007), and Awakenbake (2010), as well as a studio cover of Cee Lo Green’s ‘F**k You’ in 2011. Look out for a brand new EP scheduled to be released during the 2017-18 academic year!
Some of our favorite things include: trying to come up with new jokes about our group name, road trip playlists that only include Disney music *cough cough, Hall brothers,* taking long walks on the beach, perfecting the body roll, and candle-lit chicken and waffle dinners.
